#DataRX Report: March 16, 2018

Prescription for Payors-

“UnitedHealth will deliver data and analytics, technology, and care coordination to healthcare providers, including those participating in the CMS Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced program when it launches later this year. UnitedHealth’s support of bundled payments builds on their focus on value-based care delivery as well as analytics and payment innovation. Their efforts include nearly $64 billion in provider reimbursements tied annually to different value-based measures.” Find out more here: UnitedHealth Supports Bundled Payments with Health Data Analytics.

Prescription for Providers-

Wasting away: How health systems are advancing the battle against low-value care- Many health systems and hospitals are trying to eliminate waste and find efficiencies throughout. John Hopkins is one example, "Using a consistently applied and closely monitored set of procedures, Johns Hopkins was able to save $2 million a year and consume fewer bags of difficult-to-collect blood. More importantly, the academic health system created a template for reducing waste across the organization, allowing its quality oversight managers to pick through other areas with a lot of potential for eliminating waste."

What to keep your eye on-

Forty-three states have earned a failing grade for their healthcare price transparency legislation and now some senators are actively trying to change their grade. “In virtually every other industry, consumers are able to price shop, compare quality, and then decide what product best fits their needs,” they continued. “In healthcare, the lack of information and the inability to access it hurts patients and prevents normal market forces from driving competition, lowering prices, and improving quality.” Read more here: Senators Ask for Help with Quality, Healthcare Price Transparency.
